Resumo

A dor neuropática surge como resultado direto de uma lesão ou disfunção que afeta o sistema nervoso somatossensorial. A dor neuropática existe na criança mas a sua incidência é geralmente subestimada. Muitas das condições que causam dor neuropática no adulto são raras na criança mas algumas formas afetam crianças e adolescentes como a síndrome de dor regional complexa ou a dor do membro fantasma. O diagnóstico de dor neuropática é essencialmente clínico e pode ser difícil, especialmente em crianças pequenas ou com défice cognitivo. As estratégias terapêuticas que demonstraram ser eficazes em adultos foram extrapoladas para serem usadas em idade pediátrica
